Write For Rights (December 2022)

In December 2022, AISU hosted several Write For Rights Events. Write For Rights is Amnesty’s biggest annual campaign. Activists across the worldwide write letters to stand up for the rights of selected people whose human rights have been wronged. This year Amnesty supported 13 individuals. AISU, however, chose to focus on four individuals. Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara, a Cuban artist jailed for protecting freedom of expression. Yren Rotela and Mariana Sepúlveda, two trans women from Paraguay who are fighting for trans rights in their home country. Lastly, Aleksandra Skochilenko, a Russian woman arrested for peacefully protesting against the war.

The biggest AISU event was held at Buurtcentrum Rosa. Activists came by, drank some tea with us and wrote many letters. AISU sent over 200 letters this year. Thank you for your help!

The goal of the action was to demand that Europe secure everyone’s right to seek asylum, and to show solidarity with refugees, asylum seekers, and the families of those who died on Europe’s borders.
